Privacy Policy

Pickup ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that helps parents and guardians coordinate child pickups within trusted circles. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and (optionally) phone number. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from those services.
Children's Information
You may add your children's names, grades, schools, dates of birth, medical notes, and allergy information to facilitate pickup coordination. This data is only visible to members of circles you create or join.
Location Data
We collect precise location data when you use the app as a driver (to share real-time ETA and pickup progress with the requesting parent) and when you use the place picker to set pickup/drop-off locations. Location data is only shared with relevant circle members during an active pickup. We do not track your location in the background when you are not actively driving a pickup.
Contacts
If you grant permission, we access your device contacts solely to help you invite friends and family to your circles. We do not upload or store your contacts on our servers.
Photos and Camera
If you grant permission, we access your photo library or camera to let you set a profile picture. Profile photos are stored securely and visible to members of your circles.
Push Notification Tokens
We collect your device push notification token to send you real-time updates about pickup requests, claims, and status changes.
Purchase Information
If you subscribe to Pickup Plus or Pickup Pro, Apple or Google processes your payment. We receive a purchase receipt and subscription status but never see your payment card details.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage data such as pickup request counts and feature usage to enforce subscription tier limits and improve the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide and operate the service: To deliver pickup coordination features, share relevant information with your circle members (names, vehicle details, ETA), and process your transactions.
- Send notifications: To send push notifications about pickup requests, claims, status changes, and other activity relevant to you.
- Manage your subscription: To verify your subscription status, enforce tier limits, and process upgrades or cancellations.
- Improve and develop new features: To analyze usage patterns, diagnose bugs, and develop new features that make the app more useful. This includes understanding which features are most popular and how users interact with the app.
- Personalize your experience: To tailor content, suggestions, and the overall user experience based on how you use the app.
- Safety and security: To monitor for fraud, abuse, policy violations, and unauthorized access. This includes detecting suspicious activity and protecting the integrity of our platform.
- Analytics: To measure app performance and understand how features are used. We use Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymized usage metrics.
- Communications: To send you service-related messages (account alerts, security notices, pickup confirmations) and, if you opt in, promotional messages about new features and tips. You can opt out of promotional messages at any time.
- Research: To conduct internal research using aggregate or de-identified data to understand trends, improve the service, and inform product decisions.
- Customer support: To respond to your support requests and resolve issues.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable government requests.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in the following ways:
- With your circle members: Your name, profile photo, vehicle details, and real-time location (during active pickups) are visible to members of circles you belong to.
- With service providers: We use Firebase (Google Cloud) to store data, send notifications, and collect analytics. Firebase processes data under Google's privacy policies. We may use additional service providers in the future, all of whom are contractually required to protect your data.
- Analytics providers: We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage. These tools collect anonymized usage data (such as screen views and feature interactions) but do not receive your name, email, or other personal identifiers.
- Aggregate and de-identified data: We may share aggregate, de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For example, we might share statistics like "70% of pickups occur on weekdays" or "average circle size is 6 members." Once data has been aggregated and de-identified, it is no longer considered personal information under this policy.
- Business transfers: If Pickup is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have regarding your information.
- For legal reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Pickup, our users, or the public.
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Pickup is a mobile app and does not use browser cookies. We use Firebase Analytics, a standard mobile analytics SDK, to collect anonymized usage data (such as which screens are viewed, which features are used, and crash reports). This data helps us understand how the app is used and improve it. Firebase Analytics may use device identifiers for this purpose. You can limit analytics data collection by adjusting your device's privacy settings.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore with encryption at rest and in transit. Access to data is restricted through Firebase Security Rules — users can only access data for circles they are members of. We implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, but no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Children's Privacy
Pickup is designed for use by parents and guardians (ages 18+). We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13. The children's information entered by parents (names, schools, medical notes, allergies) is provided by and controlled by the parent/guardian and is only shared within that parent's circles.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and update: You can view and edit your profile, children, and vehicle information at any time in the app.
- Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Profile > Edit Profile > Delete Account.
- Manage permissions: You can revoke location, contacts, camera, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
- Manage subscriptions: You can cancel or change your subscription through the App Store or Google Play.
- Opt out of promotional messages: You can opt out of promotional communications at any time through your notification settings in the app.
8. California and U.S. State Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident (or a resident of another U.S. state with similar privacy laws), you may have additional rights:
- Right to know: You may request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. You can do this directly in the app via Profile > Edit Profile > Delete Account, or by contacting us.
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell your personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or similar state laws.
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

9. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, children, vehicles, and circle membership data. Aggregate and de-identified usage statistics that can no longer identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and research purposes.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
